UK Airport Authorities Disappointed by the Reinstatement of 100ml Liquid Limit

BBC reported that AOA explained how the sudden return of the 100ml liquid limit negatively affected airports and passengers. The association stated that the government's announcement left airports frustrated.

Meanwhile, the reintroduction of the policy confused passengers and created uncertainty. This is a big deal, especially since the busiest time of the year is approaching.

According to The Guardian, the Department for Transport (DFT) announced on Friday, June 7. Officials implemented the 100ml liquid restriction right away on Sunday, June 9. DFT Secretary Mark Harper argued that this decision only affects a few airports.

The transport secretary explained that the announcement only affects six regional airports and that the reintroduction of the 100ml liquid limit only impacts around 6% of travelers in the UK.

DFT Didn't Give Airports Enough Time

AOA Trade Body Chief Executive Karen Dee explained that British airports support the government's decisions regarding people's safety and security. However, DFT's Friday announcement took them by surprise.

She said the government didn't give them enough time to prepare and react to the change, creating uncertainty for passengers.

Karen Dee added that the reintroduction of the 100ml limit on liquids also puts airports in a very difficult situation. They have very limited time to prepare their employees and gather the resources needed for the restriction.
