A New Study Says Over 20% of Gen Zers Bring Parents on Job Interviews
The new study, conducted by ResumeTemplates.com, involved almost 1,500 Gen Zers. According to Fox Business, many of the surveyees rely on their parents when finding jobs.
ResumeTemplates.com's study revealed that 25% of Gen Zers admitted to asking their fathers and mothers to accompany them on job interviews. Meanwhile, 70% of the participants said they asked their parents for help finding work.
In addition, 16% of Gen Zers said that their job applications were submitted by their parents. To make matters more interesting, 1 in 10 Gen Zers said that their parents wrote their resumes.
Should Gen Zers Involve Parents in Their Careers?
Many experts said asking your parents to proofread your resume or cover letter is okay. They added that seeking assistance from parents to role-play for a job interview is also common.
However, they clarified that there are limits to involving parents in job hunts. People Managing People's HR professional David Rice explained that many applicants involve their parents in peculiar ways because of their family dynamics.
He added that in some families, parents are overbearing, and other kids always ask for help from their parents. But Rice said that every kid wants their parents to see that they are doing the right things when finding jobs.
