India is making significant progress in achieving self-reliance in defense with the imminent introduction of its first indigenous loitering munition, the Nagastra-1, by the Indian Army.
India's Nagastra-1 Loitering Munitions Ready for Deployment
Loitering munitions can hover above a designated area, patiently awaiting the opportune moment to launch an attack. These drones have been specifically engineered to hover over a designated area until they locate a target; at this point, they initiate an attack by colliding with it.
Solar Industries developed this advanced technology in Nagpur, representing a significant milestone for the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) initiative.
In April 2023, the company secured a contract to provide the Indian Army with the Nagastra uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV), surpassing rivals from Israel and Poland, First Post reported.
Solar Industries has embarked on the challenging endeavor of manufacturing a variety of weaponized drones, and the successful production of the Nagastra-1 marks a promising start.
The drones were created by collaborating with Economics Explosives Ltd (EEL), a subsidiary of Solar Industries Nagpur, and Bangalore's Z-Motion.
