Stellantis is recalling almost 1.2 million vehicles in the United States and Canada to fix a software glitch that can disable rearview cameras. According to The Associated Press, this recall affects various models across multiple years.

Stellantis is taking swift action to address this issue, deploying an online software update. This update is crucial as it directly affects the safety and functionality of your vehicle's rearview cameras. Some vehicles have already received this update, and owners should see a request to accept the update on their media screens. Recall notices will also be mailed to owners.

The recall affects 2022 and 2023 Ram ProMaster vans, 2022 Ram 3500 chassis cabs, and Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups. It also includes Chrysler Pacifica minivans from 2021 to 2023, Jeep Grand Cherokee L SUVs from the same period, and Dodge Durango SUVs from 2021 and 2022.

Despite the urgency of the situation, it's important to note that Stellantis has not reported any injuries or crashes related to the software glitch. This is a testament to the company's commitment to safety. However, Stellantis still emphasizes the importance of following the recall instructions to ensure vehicle safety.

The recall also coincides with Stellantis facing operational issues. CEO Carlos Tavares recently voiced frustration over the poor performance of certain US plants. He admitted on June 13 that delays in resolving operational problems, an inventory surplus, and an ineffective marketing strategy have led to decreased shipments and revenues.

A recent VCPost report showed that the automaker had already recalled 200,000 more vehicles in the past few months due to the same software issue, but this time concerning car stability risks.

Stellantis vehicle owners are urged to comply with the recall instructions to ensure their rearview cameras will function properly.
