Firefighters are currently battling a huge fire at the Linwood Industrial Estate in Elderslie, less than four miles (6.4 kilometers) from the Glasgow Airport Sunday night (June 23).

The BBC reported that emergency services were contacted by nearby residents at about 21:00 local time (22:00 UTC) after hearing loud explosions.

At least 10 fire engines and their crews were reported at the scene as of writing.

Smoke Rises over Glasgow

It is understood that the fire produced a large plume of smoke that could be seen drifting towards the north of Glasgow, a coastal city in Scotland.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said that flights were not being affected by the smoke coming from the fire.

STV also reported that Police Scotland closed Burnbrae Road, which approached the industrial park, due to the fire. The cycling path behind the property was also closed for the time being.

Police urged residents near the scene to remain indoors and keep their windows and doors closed and told the public to avoid the area until further notice.
