Snapchill Canned Coffee Products Recalled Over Deadly Botulism Toxin Fears

By

Snapchill, a coffee manufacturer based in Wisconsin, issued a countrywide product recall after federal regulators warned that its production process could produce a deadly toxin.

Snapchill Coffee Products Recalled

Last week, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Snapchill voluntarily recalled all its canned coffee products, which were still within the expiration date.

The notice noted that the company's present manufacturing method could result in the development and production of botulinum toxin in low-acid canned goods.

Fox Business reported that the recall came after the FDA informed Snapchill that they had not registered the low-acid canned goods procedure with them, as required by legislation.

Different roasters and merchants distributed the products throughout the US, and Snapchill's website was another distribution channel. The goods are available in metal cans with capacities ranging from 7 to 12 ounces and are sold under several roasters and brand names.

What To Do Next

According to USA Today, anyone who bought the recalled product was asked to dispose of it properly or return it to Snapchill or the purchase location for a full refund.

With the proper documentation, such as a photo of the product or goods before they are destroyed, Snapchill is reportedly willing to provide complete refunds for any of these items. Customers who have any inquiries can email the company at Compliance@snapchill.com or call (920) 632-6018.

About Botulism

Botulism is one kind of food poisoning that could be fatal. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that a toxin in botulism targets the nervous system, leading to respiratory problems, paralysis of the muscles, and ultimately death.

According to the FDA notification, infected people may suffer from generalized weakness, vertigo, double vision, and difficulty eating or speaking. Constipation, weakening of other muscles, trouble breathing, and abdominal distension (swelling of the abdomen region) are also possible symptoms.

These signs may appear anywhere from six hours to as long as two weeks after consuming the poisoned food. The FDA said that anybody with symptoms should immediately see a doctor.

No illnesses have been reported so far, and Snapchill said it was not aware of any incidents in which its products contained botulin toxin.
