There are no Fortune 100 CEOs who have donated to former President Donald Trump this election cycle, according to data compiled by Yale professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld. This group historically leans Republican.
Fortune 100 CEOS Are Not Supporting Donald Trump
The data reveals that corporate America's financial backing for Donald Trump has been minimal since he became the Republican nominee in 2016.
Trump also received no donations from Fortune 100 CEOs during his 2016 campaign against Hillary Clinton. In 2020, he secured support from only two Fortune 100 CEOs.
Around two-thirds of Fortune 100 CEOs are registered Republicans. However, many are not aligned with Trump's brand of politics. Sonnenfeld noted that top corporate leaders today, like many Americans, feel uneasy with either Trump or President Joe Biden.
He said many Americans essentially like or at least can tolerate one of them, but they really fear "the other."
Donald Trump Faces Lowest Level of Corporate Support in the Republican Party History
Interestingly, major investors show more willingness to back Donald Trump than big-name CEOs. Steve Schwarzman of Blackstone is a prominent supporter. According to Sonnenfeld, Trump continues to face the lowest level of corporate support in Republican Party history.
