The Hollywood film and television crew union announced Tuesday that it has reached a tentative three-year agreement with top studios. According to Reuters, this deal includes pay raises and protections against the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the industry.
Hollywood Workers Union Deal Reaches an Agreement with Top Studios
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), representing various crew members, will ratify the agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which includes Disney, Netflix, and other major studios.
Under the new agreement, scale-rate hikes will be 7% in the first year, followed by 4% and 3.5% in the subsequent years.
Safeguards Against AI
The deal also addresses concerns regarding AI. It contains provisions ensuring that no employee will be required to provide AI prompts that could lead to the displacement of any covered workers.
In 2023, the SAG-AFTRA actors union and the studios reached a similar labor agreement. The agreement ended a nearly six-month production halt and included pay raises, streaming bonuses, and AI protections.
