London Police Officer Allegedly Steals Money From Dead Man

The charge stemmed from an incident in September 2022, when he allegedly took money from a man who had collapsed and died in Harringay, London. Craig Carter, who lives in Harlow, Essex, has been suspended from duty following the charge.

According to the New York Post, the London cop stole £170 ($214) from Italian filmmaker Claudio Gaetani, who suffered a fatal heart attack while cycling on a street.

The charge alleged that he "wilfully and without reasonable excuse" misconducted himself "in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder" by taking money from the dead man.

London Police Officer Case to be Referred to a Crown Court

Craig Carter served with the North Area Command Unit at the time of the alleged offense. Scotland Yard announced the charge on Thursday via postal requisition.

Due to the severity of the allegation, the case is expected to be referred to a crown court. The London police officer has yet to enter a plea.
