The authorities in the western Turkish city of Izmir reported that a propane tank explosion occurred at a restaurant on Sunday, June 30, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and the injury of 63 others.

According to AP News, the explosion, which caused minor damage to the adjacent buildings and devastated the street, was captured on security cameras.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on social media that dozens of rescue personnel were promptly dispatched to the location.

Governor Suleyman Elban of Izmir visited the hospital to inform the injured that 40 of them had already been released.

Video footage from a street CCTV camera reveals the shocking destruction of a building in a powerful explosion that occurred in Izmir, one of the largest cities in the country.

Several vehicles and nearby residences in the Ayrancılar neighborhood sustained damage. The impact of the explosion is significant. The street is littered with scattered debris, and the destructive force has torn apart window frames and doors.

Turkish interior minister Ali Yerlikaya expressed his condolences for the victims in a post on X. He mentioned that an explosion took place in a restaurant in the Fevzi Çakmak neighborhood in Torbalı, Izmir.

Suspect Allegedly Replaced the Propane Tank Before the Incident

Initial investigations suggest that the explosion may have been caused by an industrial cylinder .Dispatched to the incident area were two vehicles and nine personnel from Izmir Provincial AFAD, along with eight ambulances, two UMKE teams, and 36 personnel from the Provincial Health Directorate.

Despite receiving prompt medical attention, one of the victims who was hospitalized unfortunately did not survive their injuries.

According to Metro, the confirmation of the victims' identities in the explosion is still pending. Authorities established a perimeter around the restaurant as a precautionary step in the aftermath.

One suspect who may be accountable has been apprehended by law enforcement. He allegedly had replaced the propane tank on Saturday, June 29.
