Fisker has requested a bankruptcy judge overseeing its Chapter 11 proceedings to let them sell over 3,000 Ocean electric SUVs in its inventory for approximately $14,000 each to a vehicle-leasing company, according to Reuters.

The sale, if approved, would allow Fisker to sell 3,321 electric vehicles to New York-based American Lease for a total of $46.25 million.

VCPost learned last month, June, that the electric vehicle startup filed for bankruptcy protection and has been facing logistical challenges in selling its Ocean electric SUVs since then.

What is the cost of a Fisker Ocean?

Earlier this year, Fisker shifted to a dealer-partner model after depleting massive cash. Some variants of the Ocean SUV were initially priced at around $70,000.

However, as the company spiraled into bankruptcy, it reduced prices for the cheapest variant to approximately $25,000 to raise capital and meet its debt obligations.

American Lease, which provides a fleet of cars for lease or rent to rideshare drivers in and around New York City, had initially agreed to purchase 2,100 Ocean EVs on May 30. This was decided weeks before Fisker filed for bankruptcy protection.

A month later, American Lease increased its offer to buy all 3,321 Ocean EVs ready for sale.

Considering that New York City has set a goal to convert its rideshare fleet to zero-emission vehicles or vehicles accessible to wheelchair users by 2030, the agreement between Fisker and American Lease could support the city's goal.
