In response to a potential safety concern, a company based in California has initiated a recall of approximately one million power adapters that were sold with sound machines designed to aid infants and young children in sleeping.

Hatch Baby Sound Machine Adapters Recalled

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, there is a concern with the plastic surrounding the AC power adapter that comes with some of Hatch's Rest 1st generation sound machines. It has been reported that the plastic can detach when removing the product from an outlet, potentially exposing the prongs. There is a heightened risk of electric shock.

According to the CPSC's recall notice last week, there have been 19 incidents where the plastic housing surrounding the adapter has detached, resulting in two cases of consumers experiencing a minor electric shock.

In a recent company announcement, Hatch stated that the recall is limited to power adapters provided by Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. Furthermore, Hatch mentioned that they have ceased sourcing from Jiangsu Chenyang for their products.

Based in Palo Alto, California, Hatch pointed out that the problem lies solely with the adapter that comes with the sleeping machines, rather than the device itself. The company stated that the Hatch Rest 1st generation device can be safely used once a replacement power adapter is provided.

Meanwhile, it is strongly advised that consumers who have the defective power adapters discontinue their use. The adapters that have been recalled were made in China and can be recognized by their model number: CYAP05 050100U.

The adapters were sold alongside Rest 1st generation sound machines on Hatch.co, as well as major retailers like Target and Walmart, from January 2019 to September 2022. Additionally, there were sales made on Amazon until May, 2024.

The device are designed to create soothing sounds and melodies that aid in the sleep of babies and young children. Additionally, they come equipped with a gentle night light for added comfort.
