Mark Pincus, the tech billionaire and founder of Zynga, has joined a group of Democratic donors urging President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, according to a report by the Financial Times.
Democratic Donors Urge Biden to Drop Out
As Biden's support from key backers wanes, these donors are seeking a younger candidate to boost the party's chances against Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
Pincus believes the Democratic party should hold a contest to replace Biden, arguing that the president's age has become a major issue.
He suggests that an open convention could bring new energy to the campaign, with strong candidates like Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom as potential replacements.
Biden's Diminishing Support
His comments come shortly after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and actor George Clooney expressed concerns about Biden's diminishing support among influential party members. Democratic members of Congress and other donors have also encouraged Biden to step aside, citing drying up campaign funds and unfavorable polling data.
Despite the growing pressure, Biden has reiterated his commitment to the race, stating his determination to defeat Trump. However, key donors like George Krupp have warned that the president's age could remain a critical issue throughout the election cycle, potentially diverting funds to other Democratic candidates.
