While signing up for Amazon Prime offers a range of benefits, it comes with a cost. As of 2024, you will need $14.99 per month or $139 annually for an Amazon Prime membership. Separately, you can join a Prime Video membership for $8.99 per month.
For those who frequently shop on Amazon, the benefits such as free two-day shipping, access to Prime Video, and other perks can justify the expense.
However, for students on a tight budget, these costs might seem steep.
Can You Get Student Discount At Amazon?
Fortunately, Amazon Prime offers a student discount through Amazon Prime Student. This plan provides all the same benefits as a standard Prime membership but at an affordably reduced cost.
This membership begins with an initial six-month trial period, after which it renews at a discounted rate of just $7.49 per month, unless canceled before the trial ends. For students, the discount lasts as long as they are enrolled or for up to four years, whichever comes first. For those aged 18-22, the discount is valid until they turn 23.
During the six-month trial, members receive most benefits of a regular Prime membership, such as free two-day shipping and access to Prime Video. However, they cannot share their membership with household members, only receive a single Twitch channel subscription for one month, and do not have access to the Kindle Owners' Lending Library.
However, according to Amazon Forum, Amazon Prime Student is only currently being offered in Austria, Canada, France, Germany, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
How Do I Get Prime Student Pricing?
Before subscribing to Amazon Prime Student, you must first create an Amazon Account. If you don't already have one, you can head over to Amazon's website and sign up for a new account.
Go to the Amazon Prime Student page on Amazon's website. You can find this by searching "Prime Student" in the search bar.
On the Prime Student page, click the button that says "Start your 6-month trial."
Take note that to qualify for Prime Student, you'll need to verify your student status. You have two options:
With a .edu Email Address: Enter your .edu email address and follow the verification instructions sent to your email.
Without a .edu Email Address: If you don't have a .edu email, you can upload an alternate proof of enrollment, such as a student ID card or an up-to-date transcript.
Amazon may ask for additional information, such as your intended graduation year. Fill in the required details accurately.
You will only be able to enjoy your six-month free trial once your student status is verified. From there, you'll also have access to all the benefits of Amazon Prime.
During the sign-up process, you'll be asked to enter your payment information. You won't be charged during the six-month trial, but your card will be billed at the discounted rate of $7.49 per month after the trial period ends, unless you cancel.
After completing the sign-up process, you can start enjoying Prime Student benefits, including free two-day shipping, Prime Video, Prime Reading, and exclusive deals.
You can manage your Prime Student membership settings by visiting "Manage Your Prime Membership" in your Amazon account. Here, you can update your payment information, change your membership status, or cancel the membership if needed.
