The recalled steam cleaners were being sold at major retailers such as Target and Walmart, as well as online through Bissell's website and Amazon, from August 2008 through May 2024.
Bissell, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has provided instructions on its website for identifying the affected models by their serial numbers and registering for the recall. Affected consumers are also advised to cut the power cord and upload photos of the products to facilitate the recall process.
The company has since urged users to stop using the affected models immediately and to contact Bissell for either a refund or store credit. Consumers can choose between $60 in store credit or a $40 refund.
Bissell has emphasized that safety is a top priority and has voluntarily issued this recall out of an abundance of caution.
The company is working to address the issue and prevent further injuries.
