Conn's HomePlus, a 134-year-old retailer of furniture and electronics, has recently filed for bankruptcy and announced plans to close more than 70 stores nationwide.
The Texas-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas after sales declined as Americans struggle with high costs of living.
Conn's noted that it has assets and liabilities worth between $1 billion to $10 billion. Conn's also said it had between 25,000 to 50,000 creditors, per Fox Business, citing the company's Chapter 11 filing documents.
Conn's Is Closing Stores
In addition to the Chapter 11 filing, Conn's also noted that it is closing 73 HomePlus stores in the US. Florida is the most affected state, with 18 stores shutting their doors soon. This is followed by Texas, with nine locations closing.
