Nestlé has announced the departure of CEO Mark Schneider, who is stepping down after eight years at the helm. According to CNBC, the Swiss food giant will be replacing Schneider with Laurent Freixe, a seasoned Nestlé veteran, effective September 1.
Freixe has been with Nestlé since 1986 and most recently served as CEO of the Latin America unit.
Mark Schneider's Departure from Nestlé
Nestlé is making a leadership change as the company has been struggling recently in its financial sector. During Mark Schneider's time as CEO, Nestlé did not just face poor sales and revenue results, but also a loss of investor trust.
Recently, VCPost reported that the company is already looking forward with less sales forecast due to implemented price hikes and the reaction it got from consumers.
These issues led to a decline in the company's stock price. After the announcement of Schneider's departure, Yahoo Finance shared that Nestlé's shares fell by 2.57%.
However, analyst Jon Cox from Kepler Cheuvreux thinks the leadership change is necessary. "I think confidence has been severely hit in the case and particularly in Schneider. I presume most people will think it's not such a bad thing at this point for Schneider to go."
Cox believes that the transition could be a positive development for investors who have been concerned about the company's recent performance.
Global Cofee Report says Nestlé's chairman, Paul Bulcke, expressed confidence in Freixe's appointment and calls him a "perfect fit for Nestlé at this time." Under this new leadership, Bulke believes Nestlé will not just address recent operational challenges but also further strengthen its position "through consistent and sustainable value creation."
