Navigating healthcare today can feel like an uphill battle, both for those who give care and those who need it. Doctors and nurses often find themselves tangled in paperwork and red tape, which can get in the way of the compassionate care they want to provide. Patients, too, face their own hurdles, from navigating insurance to dealing with social and economic challenges that affect their health. Recognizing these struggles, Katrina Jamison founded Equivio Health Partners with a clear mission: to simplify healthcare and empower both providers and patients to focus on what really matters—getting better and staying healthy.
Equivio was born out of a deep understanding of the struggles faced by healthcare providers and patients, particularly in underserved and rural areas. While working with a provider's office in rural South Carolina, Katrina witnessed firsthand the frustrations that both providers and patients encounter. She explains, "Providers want to take care of their patients, they want to be successful, and patients want to take an active part of their health care journey. But there's a gap in being able to do that on each side. And so, in working with this clinic specifically, and working with over a couple of thousand patients, I have put together platforms to close these gaps and really improve overall healthcare."
Motivated by these experiences, Katrina founded Equivio, a health tech company designed to address the very challenges she observed. Equivio provides digital and clinical support to healthcare providers and payers, with a mission to empower providers to focus on what they do best-caring for patients—while helping patients overcome barriers to take control of their healthcare journey.
Katrina's journey in healthcare began with a solid foundation in pharmacy. She practiced as a pharmacist for a few years before quickly ascending the ranks to hold operational leadership positions within one of the largest healthcare organizations in the world. During this time, Katrina gained invaluable experience in running healthcare businesses, which laid the groundwork for her future endeavors.
Katrina's success in the corporate world was undeniable, but she felt a deep, personal drive to make a real impact in healthcare. Reflecting on this motivation, she says, "I wanted to see if I could truly make a difference. Did I really know anything, or was I just part of a larger machine moving forward without my influence? So, I began working in startups."
Over the past eight years, Katrina has dedicated herself to helping healthcare startups scale and thrive. Her passion for solving problems and improving healthcare has fueled her journey, allowing her to gain valuable insights into the many facets of the industry through her work with various innovative companies.
What sets Equivio apart from its competitors is its commitment to affordability and accessibility. While many existing solutions are expensive and out of reach for smaller, rural providers, Equivio offers cutting-edge technology at a price point that these providers can afford. This democratization of healthcare technology is at the core of Equivio's mission, ensuring that even the smallest practices have access to the tools they need to deliver high-quality care.
"At the end of the day, our price tag is built and designed such that the little guy, the private practice owners, the rural healthcare leaders, can afford to tap into the highest level of technology at a price point that they can afford," says Jamison.
In addition to being affordable, Equivio's platform is designed to be agile and adaptable. Unlike larger companies that offer rigid, one-size-fits-all solutions, Equivio continuously evolves its platform based on the needs of the providers it serves. This adaptability allows Equivio to stay ahead of industry changes and ensure that its technology remains relevant and effective.
As Equivio continues to grow, Katrina Jamison remains committed to transforming healthcare for both providers and patients, ensuring that high-quality care is accessible to all. Equivio's mission is clear: to bridge the gaps in healthcare and create a system that truly works for everyone involved.
