The ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktail market is booming, with global sales valued at $19 billion in 2022 and projected to nearly triple to $57 billion by 2032, growing at an impressive annual rate of 11.2%. In the U.S. alone, fueled by evolving consumer preferences for convenient, high-quality cocktail experiences, the RTD market is anticipated to reach $7.8 billion by 2024. Women aged 25 to 45 and the millennial generation, with a population of 72 million, represent a significant portion of this demand and are driving trends toward premium ingredients and exciting flavor profiles.
Yet, many canned cocktails are overly sweet, syrupy, and calorie-heavy, or on the flip side, they are low-calorie, highly carbonated, and utterly flavorless. Often, they are one-note, and many leave an aftertaste, so finding an easy, 'go to' cocktail that tastes delicious and doesn't ruin one's nutrition goals is nearly impossible.
Fortunately, Groovy Baby Cocktails is shaking up the canned cocktail world with a convenient and tasty RTD that contains real juice, is low in sugar, has minimal calories, and, most importantly, tastes fresh and natural.
"Groovy Baby Cocktails are handcrafted. They are much more than just another drink in a can," explains founder and CEO Allie Frost. "We deliver a layered, refreshing experience that's both convenient and satisfyingly complex. It's more like having a bartender in your pocket than a canned drink on the go."
Groovy Baby Cocktails don't rely on artificial ingredients or heavy sweeteners to mask the alcohol taste. Instead, Groovy's real fruit and high-quality spirits make every sip delicious. Frost adds, "Our flavors are well-balanced and smooth. It makes you feel like each drink was mixed just for you."
Frost's premium, spirit-based cocktail brand is available in the Southern California and Las Vegas markets. Unlike the many malt-based options out there, Groovy Baby uses high-quality, triple-distilled vodka and real fruit juice to create flavorful, refreshing drinks. Their flavors include Summer Citrus (grapefruit, lemon, lime) and Island Time (passion fruit, guava, lemon). Groovy Baby embraces the fun, sun-soaked California vibe, and it's quickly shaking up a growing market.
The story behind Groovy Baby is as real and genuine as its ingredients. Founder Allie Frost took a family recipe for a citrus cocktail, which had been a hit among friends and family, and transformed it into a product that stands apart from mass-produced, tasteless options. The concept took off as Allie experimented in her kitchen, working with a small canning machine and perfecting the flavor by trial and error. That DIY spirit didn't fade as she moved from her kitchen to R6 Distillery in El Segundo, where she scaled up production for the first 10,000 cans. From there, it was a grassroots effort, as Allie went door-to-door to local liquor stores, gradually growing Groovy Baby's reach.
One of Groovy Baby's biggest advantages is its composition, unlike competitors like White Claw and Smirnoff Ice, which use malt bases that can leave drinkers feeling bloated. Groovy Baby is made with a premium spirit base, making it smoother and easier on the stomach. Groovy's beverages also have lower carbonation and 5.5% alcohol.
"The reception has been enthusiastic," Frost points out. "The first thing people notice is our 70s beach-inspired branding, the bright colors, the throwback vibe. It really draws people in." The branding isn't just a gimmick; it reflects Frost's mission to offer consumers good times with a laid-back, California twist. "At the tastings and events we have been to, customers are often surprised by how different Groovy Baby is from typical seltzers. I hear 'I usually don't like seltzers, but this one I like,'" Frost shares, and it's backed up by a steady stream of returning customers.
Groovy Baby is making waves in retail, too. Starting with just three locations at Total Wine, the brand has now expanded to 15 locations across California, where they conduct two demos per month at each location. The hands-on demo approach has proven highly effective, with retailers like Total Wine eager to expand Groovy Baby's footprint based on customer demand.
Frost adds, "Sales are strong, and we are looking to deepen our presence in key markets with high traffic. Looking ahead, we are going to do more outdoor events, poolside gatherings, and other lifestyle-driven venues that attract our core audience." Groovy Baby is also gearing up for even more flavor innovations as well. The team is already exploring new combinations like cranberry-grape and pineapple-orange-mango blends.
The team behind Groovy Baby brings a wealth of expertise in consumer goods and retail, with industry veterans Karen Lu and Scott Link joining Frost in driving strategy and operational scale. "Karen and Scott are experts at getting brands into big box retailers like Target; they know exactly how to build traction and navigate the competitive beverage market," says Frost.
Additionally, Frost has certified Groovy Baby Cocktails as a Woman-Owned Business. This affords her partnerships and community connections that bolster the company's visibility, including collaboration with college groups and influencers who can reach niche markets like bachelorette and bridal parties.
Groovy Baby is clearly capturing attention with its flavorful approach to canned cocktails and its commitment to quality. This isn't just another trendy drink; it's a brand with a unique position, ready to scale, and supported by a dedicated team and enthusiastic customer base.
