Earlier this month, European couriers were hit by parcel fires allegedly linked to Russian sabotage. Now, US intelligence is taking a step to prevent the same thing happening to defense and logistics firms in the country.

The said sectors received an alert of caution due to the rising threat of sabotage activities related to Russia.

The National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) has asked all defense companies, especially those supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia, to up their security games, AP News reported. This warning is made in light of the increasing reports of acts of sabotage in Europe, which US officials believe are carried out by Russian agents.

The attacks risk US businesses abroad as well as possibly inside the United States.

Russia Responds to Sabotage Allegations

Although Russian authorities have denied any involvement with these sabotage operations, the amount of evidence turned up has already compelled the US and European security agencies to warn companies to be more cautious. NCSC advisory calls the attention of firms to remain vigilant, especially firms associated with sensitive industries like defense.

As tensions rise, intelligence officials remind everyone of the urgency of enhancing precautions for national assets and global operations.

DNI detailed that both US and European intelligence agencies confirm that Russia was involved in a series of recent acts of sabotage upon defense companies, logistics facilities, and military installations across Europe. These attacks were evident in arson attacks in the UK and Poland, among other incidents, as part of a wider strategy to severely disrupt the support being given to Ukraine from its allies.

They are worrying because they deliberately try to cause fear among people, damage infrastructure, and interrupt commercial and military operations.

Besides the immediate sabotage, Russian intelligence is also believed to be involved in a plan that involves the smuggling of incendiary devices to cargo planes heading toward North America. This plot consisted of devices that caught fire at courier hubs in Germany and a warehouse in England.

In partnership with the FBI and other components of the Department of Defense, NCSC remains vigilant in responding to this continuously changing threat.
