Fast food chain KFC, which was previously known as Kentucky Fried Chicken has announced that it will move around 100 employees from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas.

Kentucky is the state wherein KFC's founder, "Colonel" Harland Sanders, began selling fried chicken.

KFC is the latest brand to move its headquarters to Texas due to the low taxes the state offers for businesses. However, BBC reports that certain company operations will remain in Kentucky, including the KFC Foundation.

Yum Brands, KFC's parent company, is already housing its Pizza Hut chain in the state, according to The Guardian.

These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees and shareholders," Yum Brands CEO David Gibbs said about the move.

"Ultimately, bringing more of our people together on a consistent basis will maximize our unrivalled culture and talent as a competitive advantage," he added.

Kentucky Governor Expresses Disappointment

One person who is unhappy about KFC moving its HQ to Texas is Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.

"I am disappointed by this decision and believe the company's founder would be, too," Beshear said in a statement. "This company's name starts with Kentucky, and it has marketed our state's heritage and culture in the sale of its product."

Louisville's mayor, Craig Greenberg, likewise expressed his disappointment. He pointed out that KFC "was born here and is synonymous with Kentucky."
