Whole Foods Market has issued a recall for its 365 Small Bites Macaroni & Cheese after it was discovered that the product contains undeclared eggs and meat ingredients. The recall affects the 8.5 oz cartons of the popular frozen snack, which were sold nationwide.
The recall was initiated by CH Guenther & Son LLC, based in San Antonio, Texas, after a consumer complaint revealed that some packages of the product were mislabeled.
The company confirmed that the product may not be the macaroni and cheese bites that consumers expect, but could instead contain meat and eggs.
"People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product," said the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a March 14 notice, USA Today said.
No illnesses have been reported so far, but the FDA stressed the importance of removing the affected items from circulation to prevent any allergic reactions.
