South African town to benefit from venture project

An joint venture between the Lesedi local municipality or the Lesedi Council and private investors announced that it was injecting up to ZAR600 million in capital investment to build a large shopping center in the town of Heidelberg, South Africa. The new 35,000 square meter mall is expected to boost the economy of Heidelberg and its surrounding area by creating at least 1,200 permanent jobs. The project is being led by one of South Africa's prominent shopping mall developers, Flanagan & Gerard.

Flanagan & Gerard is set to be one of the a co-owners of the mall. Flanagan & Gerard's contribution in to the transaction was facilitated by the joint venture partner of the Lesedi Council, Marble Gold Ltd. "Heidelberg Mall will be not only a regional retail destination, but also en economic catalyst for the wider region," Buti Mokoena, head of Marble Gold, said.

"The site is exceptional and will draw shoppers not only from Heidelberg, but also Nigel, Balfour, Greylingstad, Villiers and surrounding farming communities, as well as act as an interceptor for traffic passing on the N3," executive director of Flanagan & Gerard Patrick Flanagan said commenting on the location of the mall.
