Airport fire causes Kenya Airways to lose USD 4 million in revenues

By

Chief Executive Titus Naikuni of Kenya Airways announced that his company had already lost USD 4 million in revenues so far because of the fire that razed parts of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The CEO of the Nairobi-based aviation firm told local media, "The incident also left us with a huge pile-up, but we are catching up because we are at about 90 percent of our normal flights." Still, long cancellations and long delays continued to hound passengers five days after the incident.

The CEO talked with local journalists as he toured tents that served as a temporary terminal for passengers waiting for their flights. He also said that last Saturday, Kenya Airways catered to 9,600 passengers. The figure fell a little short of the 11,000 passengers the company usually attended to on regular days. Kenya Airways provides international and domestic flights and handles cargo. Its subsidiaries include Kenya Airfreight Handling Limited, African Cargo Handling Limited, Kencargo Airlines International Limited and Flamingo Airlines Limited.
