The National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, which is led by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had awarded the task of creating the infrastructure in the completion of the first ultra mega steel plant in India to NMDC. The parameters of the creation of infrastructure includes obtaining clearances for environmental and forestry, establish raw materials linkages and many others. This would include finding mining firms for the raw material pipeline of the firm.
The plan is aimed to remove the hurdles that private steel makers from creating increased capacity. This is another step to achieve the 300 metric ton target capacity set by the panel for 2025. The move was also designed to regain its image as an investment friendly destination.
