Arcapita sold its North American logistics company 3PD Holding to XPO Logistics Inc. The deal was worth USD 365 million. Based in Bahrain, Arcapita invested in 3PD Holding in 2006. In a statement, Arcapita said it was able to gain on that investment but did not give details on how large the returns were. The Bahraini investment firm also said that 3PD Holding has now proven itself as one of the leaders in their niche. 3PD Holding has operations in both US and Canada.
Arcapita applied for bankruptcy in the US in March last year. It was the first Gulf firm to file for Chapter 11 protection after it took a beating in the global financial crisis. Arcapita was granted a restructuring plan by a US court. As part of the reorganization plan, it also obtained an Islamic bankruptcy loan in June.
XPO Logistics Inc is a logistics provider headquartered in Greenwich Connecticut. Its three core businesses include freight brokerage, freight forwarding and expedited transportation.
