Samsung Electronics Co and Sony Corp would launch new devices in September. Two of the largest technology corporations in Asia would showcase their merchandisebefore Apple Inc unveils its new iPhones and iPads.
As reported by Bloomberg, the Galaxy Gear of Samsung, a wristwatch-like gadget with a smartphone's features, and its Galaxy Note 3 would be introduced this coming September 4, people with knowledge of the matter said. This year, the international watch industry was projected to generate over USD60 billion in sales. The South Korean company would try to take most of the market share with its smartwatch. On the other hand, the latest Xperia handset of Sony would be released on the same day. The smartphone would feature imaging sensors utilized in Sony's televisions and cameras. Both of the corporations would announce their latest product two days before the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin would start.
"It is meaningful for Samsung to launch the product first ahead of Apple," Daewoo Securities Co Seoul-based analyst James Song said. "Putting new devices out there ahead of Apple will at least have some positive leapfrogging impact on both companies."
Samsung plunged by 0.7% to KRW1,286,000 in Seoul trading, extending the company's fall this year to 16%. Sony, on the other hand, gained 0.6% to JPY1,975 in Tokyo and has doubled during 2013.
