Budget sequestration affects preschoolers

By

The US government's budget sequestration has directly affected 57,000 preschoolers who should be starting school in the next few weeks.

The Head Start preschool program and the Early Head Start program are educational projects for children from low income families. Sadly, the said programs are some of the ones that were directly shaken by the USD 85 billion cut in the government's budget for this year. Besides being required to accept less students, the program also had to let go of employees and offer lower salaries for those that were left behind.

With the federal legislation on budget sequestration or sequester, the government is forced to cut back on various programs to implement its austerity fiscal policy for 2013.The sequester lessens the government's expenditure by a total of about USD 1.1 trillion versus pre-sequester rates approximately over a period of 8 years.

With the country's sequestration, economic growth is expected to lessen by 0.6% percentage points or 2.0% to 1.4%.
