Yahoo beats Google in US internet traffic in ComScore list

By

On Wednesday, digital analytics corporation ComScore released its monthly report about the top 50 internet companies that create online traffic in the US. ComScore listed Yahoo as the forerunner for the month of July with 196,564,000 visits. Google was slightly behind Yahoo with only 192,251,000 visits.

Google's top dog reputation was stolen by Yahoo for the first time in half a decade. According to MarketingLand, Google has been the leader in online traffic in the US since April 2008. On the other hand, Yahoo's place fluctuated between second and third place but never on the top spot.

The boost came shortly after Yahoo purchase Tumblr, a popular blogging webite, for USD1.1 billion in May, 2013. ComScore ranked Tumblr as a different entity but it indicated that the blogging site had "assigned some portion of traffic to other syndicated entities." Tumblr reached the no. 38 spot with 38,367,000 visits.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer's effort to turn the company around from a position slump seemed to have paid off with the recent ComScore report. Yahoo had recently spent billions for 20 startups and was expected to spend more with its remaining USD4.8 billion for acquisition investments.
