Tata Steel. the Indian steel conglomerate, had invested GBP800,000 in new machinery able to reduce the black dust particles produced from its Wales located facility. This is in response to the enforcement notice issued by Natural Resources Wales to the steel facility last month.
The enforcement notice relates to the requirement of the steel maker to review the problems related to the production and emanation of black dust particles from its production. The notice comes after residents of the Tailbach and Margam areas complained about the dust particles emanating from Tata Steel's Port Talbot plant.
The steelmaker had recently purchased a wheel wash system for its large dumper trucks as a way to solve the black dust fall out produced from the bank. In a statement, a Tata Steel spokesperson said, "We now have the wheel-wash which is essentially a long series of water sprays which wash the unwanted material off the wheels of the trucks into containers so we can dispose of it properly."
In response, an NRW spokesperson, "At the moment, we are still monitoring the site but after the date has passed we will be conducting a review to see if improvements have been made."
