DOTC defers bidding for proposed ticketing system of MRT, LRT

By

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) in the Philippines deferred the submission of bids for the ticketing system of the country's rail transportation systems. Prequalified bidders were supposed to give their proposals by the end of this month for the USD 1.72 billion automated and contactless single ticketing system which would be used by the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT).

DOTC Undersecretary Rene Limcaoco, however, announced the postponement because changes were being made to the concession agreement. Through a special bid bulletin, Limcaoco said, "Please be notified that the bid submission will be 30 calendar days from the date of release of the final concession agreement and all attachments/annexures. For this purpose, the PBAC shall expressly declare that such documents are final in nature."

Five firms were already prequalified to bid on the ticketing system. These are the Metro Pacific and Ayala-led AF Consortium, the Comworks Consortium, participated in byTaiwan's Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp., E-Trans Solutions Joint Venture, Inc. Consortium, which includes the Eastwest Banking Corp., Megawide-Suyen-Eurolink Consortium, and the SM Consortium which consists of various firms owned by the Sy family.
