The largest bottler of soft drinks in Latin America, Coca-Cola Femsa SAB, entered into an agreement to purchase Brazil's Spaipa SA Industria Brasileira de Bebidas. The deal was reported to have a total transaction value worth USD1.86 billion.
This is the second acquisition of Coca-Cola Femsa this year and is expected to increase the volume by at least 40% for the largest country of South America. This was confirmed by the bottler based out of Mexico City through a statement yesterday. At the completion of the purchase, which is subject to the antitrust authority of Brazil, the production would be a total of 39% of the total volume for the softdrink bottler in Brazil.
This deal stands as Coca Cola Femsa's largest acquisition after the purchase of Panamerican Beverages Inc worth USD3.6 billion. According to Bloomberg compiled data, the total global acquisition costs have already reached USD4 billion in assets located in Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines from June of 2011.
