Sources told Reuters that RHB Bank of Malaysia would be naming Khairussaleh Ramli as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer. The banking sources said Ramli would be poached from the Malayan Banking (Maybank). Ramli currently serves as the Head of the Indonesian unit of Maybank.
Reuters reported that RHB was looking to expand in Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia. RHB is reported to be in talks to acquire a 40% share in Bank Mestika. The deal was valued USD 200 million. The appointment would be in line with RHB's expansion strategy as Ramli's track record in Indonesia preceded him.
Ramli was integral in increasing the profit of Bank Internasional Indonesia to 81% last year. The Indonesian unit which he headed accounted for 7% of the total pre-tax profits of Maybank in 2012.
Ramli and officials from RHB did not comment on the said appointment. Maybank officials also declined to give a statement to Reuters.
