On Friday, Maker Studios, a Youtube multichannel network firm, announced officially its acquisition of Blip, a digital media platform company. The deal was already in the works for at least two weeks prior to the announcement when Maker signed up for an agreement in principle with the New York-headquartered company. The terms of the acquisition were not released.
Executive Chairman Ynon Kreiz of Maker Studios said, "Blip's content partnerships and technology platforms are a great complement to Maker. We will leverage these strategic parts of the business to supplement our offering, helping us continue to accelerate our growth. We are happy to welcome the Blip team to the Maker family."
The deal would allow Maker to expand its advertising and distribution reach via Blip's technology platforms for distributing video content online. Makers garnered 28.6 million unique visitos in its over 60,000 channels. According to internet analytics agency comScore, Maker's network of channels served 530.7 million videos as of July 2013. PewDiePie, a Youtube video channel of Swedish gamer Felix Kjellberg, ranked the number one Youtube's number one most subscribed channel.
