Royal KPN NV issued a statement on Monday saying that its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Eric Hageman unexpectedly resigned. Hageman's resignation was said due to personal reasons. "(Hageman's resignation) not related to working relationships or present circumstances at KPN, " the statement read. Hageman's resignation would take effect immediately.

Hageman, who is 43, took the CFO role in September 11 of last year. He was also member of KPN's Board of Management. Prior to the CFO role, he held various roles in KPN since joining the company in 2005. He started as head of Investor Relations and became head of the department of Merger and Acquisitions in 2007. He was project manager of the development of the company's 2011-2015 Strategy. When asked about the project, he said, "Our strategy is clear. We now have to focus on implementing the plans and creating value for our stakeholders."

According to KPN, Hageman helped the beleaguered company raise EUR3 billion in a rights issue this spring. Hageman was said to have also helped strike a deal to sell the company's German unit E-Plus to Telefonica, a Spanish firm.

America Movil, owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, has been attempting to take over KPN. America Movil values KPN at EUR10.5 billion. It currently owns a 30% stake in the Netherlands-based telecommunications firm.
