TV personality Katie Couric announced her engagement to banker John Molner. The 56-year old journalist gave the confirmation to People Magazine for their September 16 issue. She said that she had made finding a spouse was a priority and that she "pursued it with some purpose." She was first married to Jay Monahan who succumbed to colon cancer in 1998.
John Molner is the Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Brown Brothers Harriman and Co, an investment company based in Chicago. He proposed to Couric on Labor Day weekend on a beach in East Hampton. The couple had been dating for two years.
A former host of "Today Show", Couric was the highest paid newscaster of CBS in April 2006. She had reportedly earned a salary of USD 15 million in a period of five years. Because of her high earnings, a slang term called the "Katie Couric Clause" was named after her to refer to a clause in the SEC ruling about disclosure. Had the SEC clause been implemented, it would have required companies that were publicly traded to give full disclosure of non-executives working for them. These included directors, TV news anchors and actors.
