A spokesman for Amazon UK told BBC News that they were looking into the embargo breach of the eagerly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5). Fans had earlier posted on social media that they had already received their pre-ordered copies days before it was officially set to launch.
"We have established processes in place to deliver new titles to customers on their release date and are looking into the circumstances that led to a small number of customers receiving this game earlier than intended on this occasion", the spokesman said. The spokesman added that only a small portion of the customers got the early copies.
BBC also reported that other retailers like Cex were already selling pre-release versions of GTA 5 for up to GBP 75. This was close to twice the planned price tag of the game after its release date.
Scotsman, a newspaper, estimated that the cost for developing GTA 5 was in the vicinity of GBP 170 million or USD 265 million dollars. This would make it one of the most expensive computer video games ever developed.
