Apple Canada gave iPhone fans in Canada the suggested retail contract prices for the company's newest releases. The iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S would be available in Canadian retail stores on September 20 at 8 am, local time. Their online stores would start to sell the new models at 3:01 AM EDT.
Canadians who would be buying the Apple phones on contract would be tied to the plan for two years. They would, however, be paying a bit more than subscribers in the US. Buyers in Canada would fork out anywhere from CAD 30 to CAD 40 more than their US counterparts.
Apple Canada gave the following suggested retail prices for those who would be getting the phone on contract. For the iPhone 5s, the 16 GB model would cost CAD 229.95 while the 64 GB model would be CAD 329.95. The 64GB model would cost CAD 439.95.
The cheaper iPhone 5C, meanwhile, would start at CAD 129.95 for the 16 GB storage. The contract retail price for the 32 GB would be pegged at CAD 229.95.
Based on comScore estimates, there were already 9 million smartphone users in Canada at the end of 2011. This represented 45.3% of mobile subscribers. In that year, Apple reported an increase of its quarterly net profit to USD 28.27 billion up from USD 20.34 billion from the previous quarter. In July 2013, Apple posted a quarterly revenue amounting to USD 35.3 billion. This represented a slight increase from the previous quarter's USD 35 billion revenue. However, a decrease was felt in the net profits for the third quarter to USD 6.9 billion from USD 8.8 billion.
