Californians wishing to know if their physicians and hospitals were part of the health plans sold the state's insurance marketplace were unable to access to doctor search tool on Covered California. Covered California is the state website of the health insurance exchange markeptlace implemented under Obamacare. According to a Los Angeles Times report, the online search tools won't be available at least until Monday. The insurance exchange began enrollment on Tuesday but computer problems continued to plague enrollment.
The Los Angeles Times said a lot of insurers in California have placed limits on the number of their healthcare providers to keep premiums low. This is why knowing if their doctors were part of the health plans sold on Covered California was important for Californians, the report said.
The Republicans in Congress stripped funding for the Affordable Care Act. Meanwhile, the Democrat-controlled Senate would not allow Obamacare to be without funds. The deadlock caused the partial shutdown of the US government that continues until today.
In President Obama's first meeting with lawmakers after the shutdown, he had set two conditions before he would negotiate with Republican leaders on a long-term budget deal. Republican leaders had to pass funding so that the government could reopen. Moreover, Obama also said they should increase the debt ceiling by October 17 so that the Treasury Department would still be able pay its obligations to contractors, citizens and creditors.
