In an announcement made today, Videocon Telecom said it planned to bid for spectrum in the 900 Mhz band for Delhi in the scheduled auction. The firm had appointed Deloitte to evaluate the business and provide an advisory regarding the same.
The company issued a statement which said, "Videocon Telecom finds the sharp cut in the reserve spectrum floor price for the 900 Mhz spectrum to be very attractive and is seeing it as a big opportunity. The brand is evaluating the bid for the 900 Mhz license in Delhi in the upcoming January 2014 auction."
It appointed Deloitte to evaluate the business and present a case for the same.
The licenses issued to Videocon 21 were among those quashed in thde 2G case by the Indian Supreme Court last February 2, 2012. It had acquired permits to operate across all circles in 2008. In November 21, Videocon was granted spectrum in six telecom circules for a total of INR2,221 crore. The locations were as follows: East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Prasesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat and Bihar.
Overall the company has spectrum in seven circles but operates only in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh/Chattisgarth, Haryana and Punjab. It planned to launch services for the remaining circles in the next three months.
