On Monday, the shares of Talisman Energy Inc. had increased in after-hours trading. This was after activist investor Carl Icahn said he acquired around 61 million shares of the underperforming Canadian oil producer. Icahn also said he might seek a seat on the company's board, according to a Reuters report.
The listed shares of Talisman on the New York Stock Exchange had moved forward by 10.9% in after-hours trading when Icahn reveled his holding in the company. Billionaire and activist investor Carl Icahn currently holds around 6% in the company. On Monday, the Talisman stock closed at USD12.75 in New York.
The 77 year old billionaire and activist investor said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange that he had intentions of discussing with the management of Talisman Energy. He would like to discuss strategic alternatives for the oil producer firm including restructuring and asset sales. Icahn might also seek to take a board seat in the company, according to the filing.
