Prime Minister Ali Zaidan of Libya had been kidnapped from a Tripoli hotel this morning, said a Bloomberg report. The Prime Minister had been taken by a group of armed men, according to Hashem Beshr, the head of the Supreme Security Committee for Tripoli.
In a phone interview, Beshr said that the Prime Minister was still with the group.
The kidnappers were part of a group called the Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room. The revolutionary group had been loosely affiliated with the country's Interior Ministry, said the Bloomberg report. According to Beshr, the group took the Prime Minister over erroneous reports that an arrest warrant had been issued to Zaidan.
On its official Facebook page, the government of Libya posted regarding the kidnapping of Zaidan, "The Prime Minister was taken at dawn to an unknown destination for unknown reasons by a group believed to be the Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room and the Crime Combating Committee."
