High-performance HTTP web server firm Nginx Inc raised USD 10 million in its Series B funding round. The fully-subscribed round was led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), a venture capital company. Nginx's Series A investors, e.ventures, Runa Capital and MSD Capital, also participated in the round. Box Founder and Chief Executive Officer Aaron Levie also gave their support for Nginx. The most recent capital commitment had brought Nginx funding to a grand total of USD 13 million.
Nginx said it would use proceeds from the round to develop the community and commercial version of Nginx. It would also be used to improve their sales, service and support platform worldwide to cope with the growing customer demand. Next year, the company also said it would also increase its workforce from 15 employees today to 50 employees.
Nginx Author and Chief Technology Officer Igor Sysoev underscored the importance of the Nginx platform as commercial websites and web applications deal with growing online traffic. He added, "Nginx's speed and efficient use of resources has established our technology as the default content delivery and acceleration tool for over 120 million sites around the world, and has made us the most popular web server for the top one thousand busiest websites."
