According to German business weekly magazine Wirtschaftswoche, software maker SAP would be winding down its web-based software that was targeted for small to mid-sized businesses (SMEs). The software, Business By Design, would no longer be developed by the software company for future sales or clients. However, existing customers would be able to use the software.
However, an SAP spokeswoman on Saturday dismissed the business magazine's report of the software product being winded down. Correcting the report, the SAP spokeswoman said the company was simply reducing the development capacity of the SME business software.
Earlier, SAP predicted that Business by Design would be able to service 10,000 clients and would earn USD1 billion in revenues for the company. However, the software only has 785 customers to date and generated only EUR 23 million for SAP this year. Business By Design was developed on a budget of EUR3 billion.
