The name of Apple's recently launched 9.7-inch tablet, iPad Air, fueled speculation that an iPad Pro may be coming up next. According to a USA Today report, the iPad Pro could be designed for heavier work made possible only on PCs.
RW Baird Analyst Will Power said the name was probably intentional. He added, "Everything that Apple articulates it does for a reason. Developing an iPad that is better designed for productivity is something that could very well make sense."
The report said Apple already did this with its laptops and notebooks. The MacBook Air referred to the slimmer and less expensive version. It made the more costly MacBook Pro for heavy-duty tasks.
During the launch, Apple also said total iPad sales had reached 170 million. According to analysts interviewed by Apple Insider, the figure could translate to just 15 million iPad units this quarter. This represented an increase compared to the iPad sales in the same period last year.
