A report from the Daily Mail said that Google might be developing a new tablet to compete with Apple's recently-released iPad mini. Speculators called the tablet "Nexus 8" whose images where leaked in a promotional image in Google's Android Apps and Entertainment page. Google's 8-inch tablet would most likely compete with the iPad Mini which has a 7.9-inch screen. According to the report, the new tablet would run on Google's Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. It would also hold a slightly different shape than the Nexus 7.
Rumors about a "Nexus 8" were rife at the beginning of the year. In July, however, Google put a stop to the speculation when it released the Nexus 7 Asus tablet.
A Digital Trends report in February cited the estimate of an analyst which said that Google sold anywhere from 4.5 million to 4.8 million units of the Nexus 7. If these figures were correct, it was still a far-cry from the 10 million iPad minis sold in the final quarter of last year.
