Google Inc will be opening Winter Wonderlabs showrooms in six cities in the US. Winter Wonderlabs will showcase the search giant's newest products in a bid to put its retail efforts against rivals Apple Inc and Microsoft Corp in high gear. The opening of the showrooms comes just in time for the start of the holiday shopping season in the US. The showrooms are set to be opened in New York, Chicago, Washington and in Paramus, New Jersey. Winter Wonderlabs will also have outlets in Los Angeles and Sacramento in California.
In its new website, Google said Winter Wonderlabs will feature their products like Chromebook computers, Nexus 7 tablets and Chromecast video-streaming devices. After examining the products, consumers can make their orders online. One feature offered by the showrooms is a big snow globe with fake snow where customers are allowed to shoot videos of themselves.
According to a Bloomberg report, the search engine company is also putting more resources for hardware development. This year, Google joins Intel Corp in establishing more showrooms to showcase its products. Microsoft also rolled out nearly 50 stores after Apple experienced success through its retail outlets. Apple's retail stores enable customers to buy products like iPads, iPhones and Macs. It also gives them a chance to get to know about using the company's products.
On its website, Google said, "The Winter Wonderlab is a fun and interactive way to experience all of Google's new gadgets in one place." Aside from the showrooms, Google is also constructing a barge in San Francisco Bay which will showcase the company's latest technologies.
A report from The Verge said showrooms showed that Google is confident about its newest products. The Winter Wonderlabs, however, won't be featuring Google Glass which is touted to be Google's most fascinating product, The Verge report added.
