An eMarketer report revealed that retailers in the US will be spending a lot on digital ads in 2013. The digital marketing, media and commerce research firm said that by the end of the year, the budgets of US retailers on the mobile space will have increased by 15.7% to USD 9.50 billion. Last year, the digital ad space had posted growth of 14.5%.
A majority of that ad spending is expected to cater towards getting holiday shoppers to part with their cash. According to the report, an estimated 23.5% of retail ecommerce sales in the US for 2013 will happen this month and next month. The expected amount that would be reached by these sales is USD 61.8 billion. The report further said that ecommerce retail sales in the US will also reach USD 262.3 billion this year, representing an increase of 16.4%.
The report said retailers are the biggest spenders on the digital advertising space compared to any other vertical industry. With the increase this year, the retail industry is set to get a 22.3% share of the total digital ad spending in the US. This is similar to the industry's share last year. However, the report added, "This figure is expected to fall slightly in coming years as the overall market grows slightly faster than retail."
According to another report on emerging tech website vatornews, Adobe has already started forecasting that this will be its largest holiday shopping season ever, pegging online Thanksgiving sales at USD 1.1 billion. It also forecasted a 17% jump in Black Friday sales to USD 1.6 billion.
The eMarketer report also said that growth in the digital ad space as far as retailers are concerned will focus on mobile advertising. It will also be geared towards mobile display venues that have a large audience base like social media platforms Facebook and Twitter.
