Anti-spam firm Impermium announced that it is joining with Google today, according to Venture Beat.
Google has to face a lot of spam problems with its YouTube, Gmail, and search properties. It is not yet known whether Google plans to use the technology of Impermium or if the deal is just a talent acquisition, the report said.
Impermium helped companies fight social spam, including bogus blog comments. The firm went through all comments entering a system and blocked anything it deemed was spammy. To identify real people, the firm teamed up with a threat network that monitored and recorded normal and abnormal behavior of a site's users, the report explained.
Meanwhile, Impermium has posted a note on the homepage of its website to notify its users of the news, VentureBeat reported.
The first part of the note from chief executive Mark Risher read: "When we founded Impermium three years ago, our mission was to help rid the web of spam, fraud, and abuse. As sites gain in popularity, criminals and miscreants are never far behind, and Impermium has worked hard to defend some of the largest and fastest-growing sites. By joining Google, our team will merge with some of the best abuse fighters in the world."
