TiVo has announced that it will buy pay-TV service provider Digitalsmiths. The financial terms of the acquisition deal were not disclosed, according to IP & TV News.
Digitalsmiths is the most widely used cloud-based content discovery and recommendation service in the pay-TV sector. The North Carolina firm offers personalized services such as video search, social trending, browsing, recommendations, and mood-based discovery to immediately link viewers to the most relevant TV shows at any time using any screen, the report detailed.
At present, Digitalsmiths collaborates with 46 service providers in the US and abroad. These companies include seven of the 10 best American pay-TV operators, electronics manufacturers, and content providers, the report stated.
TiVo president Tom Rogers said of the deal: "The Digitalsmiths acquisition opens new opportunities to commercialize and deploy TiVo's cloud based services and technologies to operators, in an extremely cost effective way that can be offered either independently or in conjunction with TiVo's renowned user interface."
